Liverpool Energy Xchange

Green Energy Marketplace

The Future of Local Energy

LEX is building a new market platform where businesses, universities, homes, landlords and institutions can trade energy directly with one another at competitive prices, while offering valuable flexibility services to local and national grid operators.

They asked us to create an animation that would clearly explain how the Xchange works and the positive impact it could have. The animation needed to make the concept accessible to a general audience, supporting LEX’s vision for a smarter, more sustainable energy system.

Illustration of a sustainable city in 2030 with electric vehicles, charging stations, solar panels, and modern buildings, symbolizing a clean energy future and urban development.
Illustration of city buildings emitting gases like CO2, NOx, and SO2, with wind turbines nearby, highlighting the contrast between pollution and clean energy solutions.
Illustration of a city map highlighting buildings, landmarks, and attractions near the River Mersey, with icons representing wind energy, solar panels, and battery storage.

Creating a Clear and Confident Visual Identity

We created an animation using a limited, focused colour palette to guide the viewer’s attention to key details, such as using orange to highlight solar panels and energy sources.

The illustration style is simple, elegant and editorial, reinforcing LEX’s positioning as both innovative and trustworthy. This clear, uncluttered approach allowed the complex concept of peer-to-peer energy trading to be easily understood by a wide audience, while maintaining a professional and forward-looking visual identity aligned with the clean energy sector.
