DNA Data Storage

Decoding the Future of Data

By 2025, global data storage demand is expected to outpace supply. Catalog Technologies, in partnership with Cambridge Consultants, developed a machine that stores data in synthetic DNA, offering unprecedented efficiency in both speed and cost.

This breakthrough has the potential to take DNA data storage out of the lab and into real-world commercial use. We were tasked with creating an animation that could inform, excite and inspire a global audience, spotlighting the innovation and opening the door to new conversations about its transformative potential.

Visualising the Invisible

Because DNA data storage is still unfamiliar to most audiences, we created a visual language built on metaphor to make the science both clear and compelling.

The animation was designed without voice-over to keep the focus fully on imagery and movement. Flat, minimalist backgrounds created a clean, futuristic atmosphere, while simple domestic references, like a closet and an egg timer, grounded the concept in everyday life.

This contrast helped spark curiosity, making a complex technology feel relevant, relatable and ready for the real world.
