Invitae uses genetic information to change the way medicine is practised, offering testing that can identify DNA variants linked to an increased risk of conditions such as cancer. We designed an animation for patients who had been recommended for genetic testing. The goal was to make complex information easy to understand, while helping viewers feel calm, supported and better prepared for the next step in their healthcare journey.
Because this animation was created for patients undergoing genetic testing, it needed to feel reassuring from the start. We used a soft blue palette, slow-paced motion and gentle background music to create a calming atmosphere that supported understanding without overwhelming.
Visually, we took inspiration from the intricate patterns and small moving parts of DNA, designing an animation that felt both engaging and empathetic, helping patients process important medical information with clarity and comfort.
