Explaining DRAGEN in the Lab

DRAGEN is a high-performance platform for secondary analysis of next-generation sequencing data, offering speed, accuracy and efficiency without the need for extensive computing infrastructure.

Illumina asked us to create an animation that explains how DRAGEN fits into a typical laboratory environment. The content needed to be technically accurate, visually engaging and easy to understand—helping bioinformaticians and lab professionals see the value of DRAGEN in real-world workflows.

Visualising DRAGEN with Human Insight and Technical Accuracy

To bring DRAGEN to life, we used a realistic character animation style to build human connection, supported by soft gradients that aligned with Illumina’s brand and conveyed a forward-looking tone.

For scenes featuring the NextSeq machine, we created a detailed 3D model to accurately reflect its real-world movement and functionality within a lab setting.

The final animation was localised into Spanish, Portuguese and Canadian French, ensuring global accessibility and consistency across key markets.
