Illumina

Next Generation Sequencing

Explaining the Future of Genomics

Illumina is a global leader in life sciences, providing advanced tools and systems for large-scale genetic analysis. Their technologies are used by academic, government, pharmaceutical, and biotech institutions around the world.

They asked us to create a series of animations that would clearly explain next-generation sequencing, an advanced approach that has replaced traditional DNA sequencing methods. The animations needed to feel sophisticated and forward-looking, with a visual style that would remain relevant and timeless in a fast-evolving scientific space.

Designing a Visual Language for Complex Science

To bring Illumina’s story to life, we developed a series of high-quality explainer animations that simplified complex genomic science while maintaining visual sophistication. A minimal colour palette and generous use of negative space ensured clarity, drawing focus to colour and motion as visual metaphors for key sequencing concepts.

We used subtle camera movement and z-axis transitions to emphasise data volume and sequencing speed. A bespoke, uplifting soundscape supported the visual tone, keeping the viewer engaged without distraction.

The final animations have reached over 2 million viewers on YouTube, bringing next-generation sequencing to a global audience.
