Telling Sabika’s Story – The Rohingya Refugee Crisis

Middle Child and 11 London partnered with us to create an animation for Christian Aid, with the goal of shining a light on the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis through the eyes of a single child: Sabika.

More than five years after 720,000 Rohingya people fled Myanmar, the crisis remains unresolved. Our brief was simple but powerful: keep Sabika’s story at the heart of the narrative and help people care.

Honest, Human Storytelling

We used frame-by-frame 2D animation to bring Sabika’s journey to life with emotional clarity. Every visual detail, from the colours of her clothing to the rhythm of her movement, was crafted to feel relatable and easy to follow.

To symbolise the trauma of family separation, we introduced a paper doll motif. Simple, memorable and told through a child’s perspective, it served as a powerful visual metaphor for loss.

The result is a deeply personal humanitarian animation that highlights the continued need for awareness and action. Christian Aid works with partners on the ground to support women and children still facing violence, trafficking and displacement in refugee camps.
