Barnardo's

Baby and Me Service

Supporting Families Through Early Intervention

Baby and Me is a partnership between Barnardo’s Cymru and Newport City Council that provides essential support during pregnancy and beyond, especially when safeguarding concerns are raised. The service is designed to help families navigate situations where a baby may be at risk of removal at birth, offering early guidance and outlining positive steps to help keep families together. Barnardo’s asked us to create an animation that clearly explains how the service works, what support is available, and how it has already helped families through some of their most difficult moments.

A woman sits in a hospital bed cradling her newborn, gazing out a window with yellow curtains, capturing a quiet, intimate post-birth moment.
Three pregnant women sit in a circle on chairs, engaged in conversation, suggesting a supportive group setting or prenatal discussion in a calm, welcoming environment.

A Gentle Visual Approach for a Sensitive Story

We created a soft, character-led illustration style using a light colour palette, textured brush strokes and minimal backgrounds. This approach kept the focus on the narration and the families at the heart of the story, while offering a calm and approachable visual tone. Our goal was to support Barnardo’s vital message with empathy and clarity, shining a light on the positive impact this service has for parents and children navigating incredibly difficult circumstances.
