Changing Faces

What is Unconscious Bias?

Challenge

Changing Faces, a leading charity supporting people with visible disfiguration or differences, wanted to explain unconscious bias in education in an interesting and informative way.

Many children with visible differences face discrimination and often underachieve at school. This is a subsequent result of unconscious bias in the classroom.

Solution

We created an animation to explain what unconscious bias is, and how it effects behaviours in the classroom. The animation is aimed at schoolteachers and it features examples of how teachers can be unconsciously biased towards children who look different.

The animation will help to create inclusive and welcoming schools and classrooms, free from bullying.
